A residents association advocating against the construction of the Petaling Jaya Traffic Dispersal Line (PJD Link) highway project has expressed hope that a two-year wait on a judicial review action will end next month.

Persatuan Petaling Jaya Lestari secretary Wong Mei Ching said the June 7, 2023, judicial review was filed with the purpose of applying for documents comprising the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Social Impact Assessment (SIA) and Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA) reports.

The applicants also requested the Focused Group Discussions (FGD) minutes on engagement between the SIA Consultant employed by and acting for the developer PJD Link (M) Sdn Bhd, and the Petaling Jaya and Kinrara residents and stakeholders.

“We are hopeful that a decision will be made next month as it will be close to two years since the case was filed.

“In the meantime, residents, business owners and stakeholders of Petaling Jaya continue to be anxious as it seems their voice is not being heard in spite of the many objections raised to the developer via the FGDs, as well as to the relevant government ministries and agencies,” said Wong in a statement.

The case was filed by three residents from Petaling Jaya and a resident from Kinrara against the Selangor town and country planning director-general; Selangor Town and County Planning Department director; Selangor government; and the federal government.

“From the date of filing on June 7, 2023, between the time periods of 2023 to 2024, affidavits were exchanged and submitted to the court. The first date set for the court decision was Oct 21, 2024.

“The decision was postponed to Jan 13, 2025. On Jan 13, the court postponed the decision to March 26, 2025,” said Wong.

Wong added that a town hall meeting will be held on Feb 15 at the Brickfields Asia College in Petaling Jaya to update the public on the status of the project, with briefings from the developer, appointed consultants, all approving government ministries and agencies as well as elected representatives.

The government had in April last year announced that the cabinet would not continue with the highway project’s construction as the developer had failed to meet several conditions.

However, in July, the Selangor government confirmed that the developer submitted a fresh proposal to revive the 25.4km long project, subject to public approval through a new round of social impact assessment.
